I’m Marie Boucault, I am 24 years old. I will be doing an internship in the field of microbiology, which is entitled “directed mutagenesis of mutations described as being associated with antimicrobial resistance in Helicobacter pylori”. This internship is linked to the EU1070 at the University of Poitiers.
The aim of this course is to list in the literature a set of mutations that have been described as responsible for antibiotic resistance. Once they have been identified and the mutations generated, the strains will be transformed. A Sanger sequencing is performed to verify that the mutation has been integrated into the genome of H. pylori, allowing subsequently to carry out a antibiogram. This last step will approve or not the sensitivity or resistance to the antibiotic.

My name is Veronica Azer, and I’m 21 years old. I am proud to be part of the MIRV team to present on the topic of antibiotic resistance genes. I will discuss the use of HTqPCR to detect a panel of relevant antibiotic resistance genes and markers, as well as to identify the genomic structures responsible for their mobilization.
This subject is particularly important because antibiotic resistance is a public health issue that affects everyone. Personally, microbiology fascinates me because it allows me to explore how bacteria can counteract the host's defenses in detail.

Hello ! My name is Henri. I’m 22 years old and I’m a student of Master in Microbiology and Immunology at University of Poitiers. I’m part of MIRV team, this team was created to do a symposia on the subject of microbial interaction, virulence and resistance.
At this event, I will talk about my internship : "Enhancing the Effectiveness of Colistin Against Resistance Using Farnesol".
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a growing global crisis, especially with bacteria like Klebsiella pneumoniae and Acinetobacter baumannii, which are resistant to common antibiotics like carbapenems. These bacteria cause serious infections, such as pneumonia, leading to many deaths worldwide. Colistin (CST) is often used as a last-resort treatment for these infections, but resistance to CST is emerging, making it less effective. Recent research suggests that combining CST with farnesol, a compound found in certain plants, could improve its effectiveness. Farnesol helps weaken bacterial membranes, potentially enhancing CST’s ability to fight these resistant bacteria. The goal of this research is to explore how farnesol can help prevent resistance to CST and keep it a viable treatment option.

Hi ! My name is Audrey, I’m 22 years old and I am a student of Master in microbiology and immunology at the University of Poitiers. I’m a part of the MIRV team that is going to do symposia on the topics of Microbial interactions, Resistance and Virulence. I will talk about “Environmental Agricultural Fungicides and Resistance to Azole Antifungals in Medicine” which is a major issue.
Indeed, nowadays, many resistances appear due to an excessive use of antibiotics in medicine and antifungal in the environment. This leads to the appearance of bacterial and fungal strains resistant to these, which therefore limits solutions for treating affected people. I’m really passionate about microbiology, and I really look forward to sharing this passion with you !
